DIY Wooden Door Hanger

I made a door hanger for my grandmother for Mother’s Day. I personalized it with all her great grand kids names on it, and it has went crazy. Everyone is asking for them so I have been left and right busy busy busy! So sorry for my absence and lack of tutorial for it. I started to make a tutorial for it but part of the way through forgot to keep taking the pictures! If you would like a tutorial on this just let me know, here is the final product!

I created a stencil for what I wanted and traced it out on a piece of plywood. I cut it out with a jigsaw, sanded it down, and painted to my hearts desire. Then I added a top coat of Polyeurthane to coat it and protect the design and screwed two small eye screws on the top. Tied it up with twine and Ta-Da!! She LOVED It and it has been a hit with all my Facebook friends! Give it a try! It’s super fun to create something so awesome!

Again thanks for stopping by, stay sunny!

DIY Photo Pendant!

Photo Pendant

Hello Sunshine!

This super easy project makes a beautiful personalized gift and the possibilities are endless with what you can include in it. It only takes a few minutes to make, then a couple of hours to dry. It’s literally the most simple process to have such an adorable outcome. First off let me apologize that I currently do not have a camera, so again these are going to be I-phone pictures. Eventually I am going to upgrade to a nice camera but that time is not now so bear with me!

Not only can you use pictures of family like I done, but you can just use words cut out of a magazine, you can stick charms in it, cute scrapbook paper, the possibilities are endless! You do not have to make it a key chain either! This could be a necklace or turned into any number of jewelry items! This is such a fun exciting project so lets just do it!

TIP: Don’t touch the photo with your fingers while they are sticky with Mod Podge which is what I done that made it look dirty and speckled on the picture!

Also that big light spot on the very right on my oldest nephew is a glare from the light, its not on the actual product, so no worries! They wont always turn out perfectly but what homemade gift ever does?! This could be a gift or something you just make for yourself (I have a pendant necklace I made with a picture of me and my grandfather when I was young that I wear around to take him with me sometimes)

Things you will need:

Mod Podge (or some type of glue to glue the picture down to the metal pendant)

Small Picture to fit pendant (I explained how I got mine to the size I needed further down in the post)

Pendants (mine are a Mod Podge brand of plate pendants I bought at Michael’s a few years ago)

Chain and links (for whatever your project may be, whether it be a necklace or keychain)

Pliers (for the above jewelry making part of this project)

Scissors or Exacto Knife (for the cutting of the picture)

Modge Podge DIMENSIONAL MAGIC! (The most important key to this project)

Step 1:

Cut & Glue Picture into the pendant!

Photo Pendant Step 1

You are just going to cut down your picture to fit the pendant or plate you are using. To get mine to a small enough size I went to the Kiosk machines at Walmart and chose under the Prints option “Collage” It makes really small options so I just put a few different pictures on there but on the smallest and next to smallest option I put the same picture, so maybe one out of the two would fit the pendant, and the smallest did *Just barely, I have a lot of nieces and nephews (& 1 more on the way)*

Then once I got the picture cut down to the right size, I just used some standard Mod Podge to glue it down to the plate. Then I let it dry completely.

Step 2:

Slowly apply a generous coat of Mod Podge DIMENSIONAL MAGIC to the entire top of the pendant.

Photo Pendant Step 2This is where the Magic Happens, What would normally just be a tiny picture glued onto a piece of metal will now become a professional looking piece of jewelry. Now all you do is slowly apply a generous amount of dimensional magic to your picture. Then take a needle and pop out any bubbles that are in the dimensional magic. Even the tiniest bubbles will still be present on the final product if you do not get rid of them. You do have a few minutes before it will start affecting the Dimensional Magic so try and move quickly because after a few minutes you will not want to tamper with it any. It will look cloudy and blurry at first but It does eventually dry clear after a few hours. The bottle’s instructions say to leave it sit 3 hours to dry but personally I like to let mine sit overnight just to be on the safe side. So do not attempt to move it, leave it on a flat surface overnight to fully dry and harden.

Step 3:

The final step is to add whatever jewelry pieces needed to finish your piece!

Photo Pendant Step 3

This part is super easy. After the pendant is completely dried, just attach your rings and chains to create your final piece. In my case that is 2 jump rings, a small chain, and a keychain ring. But you can make these into any jewelry pieces your heart desires just by altering what jewelry pieces you add to it. I just used pliers to open the jump rings and attach the chain to the pendant on one side and the key chain ring on the other! Ta-Da! Done!

Photo Pendant

That’s it, you are done! See how simple! 3 little Steps! It is very shiny and has a clear dome-resin like coat on the top of it. *it looks much better in person take my word for it* I hope you enjoy this and hope it inspires some amazing jewelry adventures for you as well.

As always, Stay Sunny!
